Winterizing Your Vehicle Checklist

Cooler weather is coming and that means you will want to prepare your vehicle for the change in temperatures as well. I have created an easy check list of items that I do each year around this time of year:

1.) Check your tires and make sure they have good tread for icy road conditions. This cane be helpful for navigating in snow as well. The air pressure might change with the drop in temps and that is a good time to go get the tread checked out.

2.) Refill your windshield washer fluid with washer fluid that includes an antifreeze solution. This can help quickly de-ice windows on cold days.

3.) Pack blankets, gloves, and a few snacks in the car, just in case you end up needing them. If you pack bottles of water, you will want to take them in and out of the vehicle so they don’t freeze overnight.

4.) Check and make sure your Coolant isn’t running low. This is very easy to do! You don’t have to pay someone to check it. Pop your hood and look for the coolant cap, then check and make sure you aren’t low.

5.) Last, check your battery. Some have a built-in hydrometer so you know the amount of voltage remaining in the battery. I had to replace mine recently… it was not cheap. You don’t want to be out and about with a vehicle that won’t start.

You can take your vehicle in to get everything checked out, or even consider trading it for a newer model at Easterns.
