Seven Things to keep in your Car in the Summer

As the Summer months are coming, I have am starting to get our vehicles “summer ready!” What do I mean by that? I mean that there are specific things that I like to stock the vehicles up with for the summer. Let me explain more… For one, we tend to go go go more in the summer. The kids love to go out and about, play at parks and hang out with friends, so we are in the van more often. Because of this, and their never ending hunger, I like to keep non perishable, non melting snacks in the car… so

1.) Snacks – we like to keep items like goldfish, pretzels, trail mix. We stay away from things that will get mushy if they get hot, such as raisins, fruit snacks, or anything with a soft filling.

2.) Water – I have each kiddo take a reusable bottle of ice water everytime we leave the house, all summer…because it helps cut down on sugar drinks at gas stations and they need to hydrate in hotter temps. They often run out quickly, so having extra bottles of water (under the seats, so they don’t get hot) to refill are always welcomed!

3.) Wet wipes – They feel refreshing on a hot sweaty face, but honestly we use them for sticky fingers, bloody knees, dirty hands and so much more.

4.) Sunblock – We try to spray down before we get in the van because my kids do not like to pause the fun when we arrive to be covered in sunblock…but we often stay long enough to need more. I keep extra bottles on hand for this very reason. Again, keeping them out of the hot direct sunlight is important.

5.) Bug Spray – I hate bug bites! We often forget how those pesky mosquitoes come out in the summer…especially at the ball fields. Having this in the car makes it easy to apply when needed or forgotten.

6.) First Aid Kit – We are at the park a TON in the summer and so that means I have to be prepared for more accidents or “needs” while there. I don’t always have bandaids on me, but if I keep a first aid kit well stocked in my van, I have what I need when I need it. This actually comes in handy year round if you can keep it well stocked!

7.) Towels – I can’t tell you how many times we have “accidentally” gotten wet while out and about and then the kids had to sit in my van soaking their seats because we weren’t prepared. I now carry towels. When I am really on my game, I keep the “pool bag” in the back of the van and it has tons of towels in it!
