Celebrating the Double Digits

My second born child, Emma, is turning 10 this week! She will officially be in the double digits! I am so excited to celebrate her special day but also so sad that she is now consider a tween!

Emma is my sweet breath of fresh air! She is so beautiful on the inside and out! She was my first surprise blessing. We were so excited to learn of our pregnancy with her! She made her way out ready to shine like a star (and only seconds after our OB came sprinting into the room! True story!). Emma has also been our special girl! She didn’t walk until a little later as we found out she had some sensory sensitivities. She gagged when she ate, licked random things, curled her toes, ran into things all of the time, and fell out of chairs while sitting still. She has always had a little extra TLC give, as she needed it! When starting preschool, Emma was placed in a blended class. She, having sensory integration disorder, would be one of the leaders in her class. This was probably one of the best things that has ever happened to her! She grew in compassion and leadership a ton that year! She has continued to show gentle compassion as she has matured through her elementary years. Emma is tender hearted and loves to show love. One of the meanest things I have ever heard her say to her sisters is “you are meaner then Cinderella’s step sisters!” Gosh, I love her so much!

Emma is also my girly-girl! She has always dressed herself…in her own fashionable ways! I recall putting her on the bus to Pre-K one day and telling her it was too cold to wear a skirt. She must have really wanted to wear that skirt because she sure did roll off of the bus with it on! (She snuck it in her backpack and changed at school!) Emma has fallen in love with BIG bows…like 8 in bows! She doesn’t care if others think they are too big or that they might look a bit silly… she LOVES them!

This year Emma didn’t ask for a big birthday party. I think she has found the value in four quarters over 100 pennys. She is only having a few friends over and wants to go to the drive in movies! She wants to make memories and laugh with friends, then enjoy them at our house! How much easier can that be?

I can’t wait to see what her next 10 years hold! I know they will be full of fun, laughter, love, and friends! I pray they won’t involve tons of boys, or rebellion, or expensive make up…but I am preparing myself now for the inevitable!

We love you to pieces sweet girl! You are our breath of fresh air, our walking disciple of Jesus, wanting others to know Him and His love and grace! We are so thankful for you in our lives!
