Building your Village

When I became a mom, I knew I would call family for advice and help when needed. I grew up with aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents and even great grandparents in the same town. Family was always around to help when needed.

Fast forward to ten years ago when I found out I was pregnant with our first born. We lived in a complete different state from family and I quickly learned that I needed a village. Okay, that’s not 100% true. I tried hard for the first few years to do it all. That actually worked okay until my 2nd and 3rd born came along. We were outnumbered, stressed and needed help.

Finding and building a village isn’t easy, and it takes time. I am so blessed to have an awesome village to help me with my girls. I have several moms who I can call on in a minutes notice who will show up and help out. For instance, last year while on a work trip, my hubby got a call that would change things for our family. His mom had a stroke. I was in the middle of the ocean and he was at home with three kids. He knew he couldn’t take the girls with him on the road and he called our village to help. Several of the moms in our village showed up and in a big way. They took our girls gladly and gave us the blessing of knowing that they were in great hands. Steve was able to head to St. Louis to be with his family and I was able to meet him there.  We never once questioned if the girls would get what they need. Our village was taking care of it.

Our village was there for many of our girls “firsts!” They cheered our girls on when they took their first steps, learned to laugh when they fell down, and even comforted them when they lost their Nanny due to cancer.

Pampers is a brand that knows how important a village is and sent me a giftcard to thank some of those in my village. I can not tell you what a gift that was to give ME. I always feel so blessed by those in my village but never know how to bless them back. I was honored and blessed to be able to say thanks in a way that I would not have been able to otherwise. I bought the most beautiful plants for two of those in my village and left them at their door steps with a note…and did something smaller scale for four others.

Pampers is honored to be a part of the journey of amazing firsts for millions of families around the world.  They are a brand that knows how special “firsts” are and have developed a utility for the #PampersFirsts campaign that will allow you to upload images of your baby from your computer/pick from your Facebook gallery and create a :15 second video to share out to your friends on Twitter or Facebook. The video will highlight your photos of your baby and all their first milestone moments.

  1. I have a “My firsts” list and keep track of almost EVERYTHING they do. I make a note with the date and any special details I want to remember. And of course, I take a TON of pictures!

  2. Hudson ‘s entire life is documented on video and photo and shared on FB/Instagram so our entire village can enjoy. Every month milestone is celebrated with a little photo shoot with Hudson’s milestone dry erase blackboard. It’s ridiculous how many photos we have of this child. #firstchildsyndrome

  3. I take a million pictures and I’m probably guilty of over sharing my little man’s milestones. 🙂
