A few years ago, my now 3rd grader came home with an “itchy head.” I thought nothing of it and dismissed her complaints. The next day I noticed her hair was a little frizzier then normal and she was complaining about her head again. This time I went in for a closer look and BAM…that’s when the tears flowed…uncontrollably. She had lice. I honestly thought that since we watched her hair daily and were a “clean” family that I would never have to deal with lice. Boy was I wrong.

Of course, I called my mom and asked if I would be a horrible person if I shaved her head…half kidding…half serious. My mom talked me out of it and so I quickly jumped on the computer to find a service that dealt with lice. I found one in Dallas that only charges $100/hr. I’m kinda frugal…so I knew I couldn’t do that.

After EIGHT hours of working my child over, we were lice free. It was one of the most horrible, helpless experiences I have ever had as a mom. One of my other two also got it and so it was double trouble. Since that horrible day, I have educated myself on how to PREVENT this from ever happening again.

Did you know that each year 85% of school districts report at least one outbreak? There is an awesome brand called Fairy Tales Hair Care that has created the first natural line of hair care products proven to repel head lice, Rosemary Repel. Rosemary Repel hair care is proven safe, gentle and effective to prevent head lice with its proprietary blend of natural, organic ingredients such as rosemary, tea tree and citronella. Clinically proven to be over 92% effective, Rosemary Repel is gentle and safe for everyday use. These products are non-toxic and free of nuts, gluten, soy and dairy for families with sensitivities to common allergens.

We have been using this brand for a few years now and they just sent me this new line to check out!

In case you didn’t know, it is best to check the “hot spots” on your child at least once a week. This includes the back of the neck, behind the ears and the part lines. These are the warm places on the head that lice like to lay their eggs. It is much easier for you to do a 10 minute head check once a week, than it is spending hours and days delousing heads, homes and cars.

Right now they are offering a 15% off discount with coupon code BLOG13 from now until October 31st! Click over to FairyTalesHairCare.com to check out their products! You can also find these awesome products at CVS or Target!

  1. I think the most common misconception is that lice comes from dirty environments. We’ve been lucky so far, but I know it’s going to happen. We’re currently using “tea tree” oil based shampoo as a preventative. But I’d love something that is safe and can be used daily.

  2. Thais Aguiar says

Using a leave in everyday. 🙂

  3. Nothing so far!

  4. our sweet little has very little hair. But my parents always kept our hair braided or up on our heads, to help prevent lice from getting on In the first place. Or atleast that is why they said they did it.
