I have three daughters and this post is gut wrenching to write but honest as the day is long. Last year I sent my firstborn off to Kindergarten and knew she would pick up a few words I didn’t really care for…perhaps a few germs, colds, and such…but never in a million years did I think she would bring home lice.

It was one of the worst weekends of my life! Only two weeks into school and a big 2nd birthday party planned for my little one, lice was far from anything we would be thinking about. Until…until I heard her say that her head was itching. I blew it off and told her she was fine. Wow, never again will I do that! The following day, she complained again and I thought her hair looked a little ratty, so I combed it…and that is when my weekend changed for the worst. I saw tiny tear drop looking things on her dark hair. I never had lice as a kid, but knew what it was fairly quickly. Her hair is dark, so they were easy to see. I sent hubby to the store to buy shampoo, while I called my mom and cried helplessly. How could this happen to us? We bathe our kids EVERY night and wash their hair. We are clean people, and have well kept kids. This made no sense…and then my mom reminded me of a few things. She probably picked it up at school. And here is the shocker…Lice like CLEAN hair. After 8 hours of picking those nasty things out of her hair and washing it a few times, I was exhausted. I got up the next morning and checked her again…more were there…how does this happen? I KNOW I got them all…but worse, now her sister had them too. I sent my hubby off to the store and cried yet again and called my mom. I knew I couldn’t sit thru another 8 hrs of picking. I researched online for people who could come help me…and found a few, only they wanted $100/hr to help. YIKES!

I lived thru that weekend, my girls got haircuts, and we wasted a ton of time and money and had to cancel a birthday party. It was horrible.

I relived that and told you how horrible it was because I want you to NEVER EVER have to live thru that. There is an awesome line of hair care that can help PREVENT this! I had the opportunity to try the Fairy Tales Hair Care for Lice Prevention as my kids started back to school…and so far we are LICE FREE! There have been notes sent home about lice, so I am thinking it’s hopping around the schools already. 🙁

Tips for keeping your kids lice-free:

  • Don’t wash their hair everyday
  • Teach your kids about the dangers in sharing coats, hats, and such.
  • Use a preventative shampoo, like Rosemary Repel Hair Products by Fairy Tales Hair Care.
  • Use a gel or hairspray as a way to “dirty” the hair so they can’t stick.
Fairy Tales Hair Care has an iPhone app that you can use to track outbreaks in your area. 85% off all schools report at least one case a year! Scary, isn’t it!  Look and see if your zip has a reported outbreak…thankfully mine is NOT on this list!

*I received a 4 bottles of the Rosemary Repel®  product line from Team Mom for the purpose of this review. No other compensation was given and the opinions are 100% my own.
