Water safety is not an area that you want to play around with. You often don’t get second chances. Drowning is the #1 cause for accidental death in children under 4.

According to the National Drowning Prevention Alliance the follow facts are sobering.

  • There are 10 fatal drownings per day. In the U.S. drowning takes an average of 3,500 – 4,000 lives per year. It IS preventable!
  • Drowning is among the top 5 causes of unintentional injury.
  • 23% of child drownings happen during a family gathering near a pool.
  • Learning to swim can reduce the risk of drowning by 88%.
  • Drowning is fast and silent.

My little guy had so much confidence but no skills a few years ago. I didn’t want to fear him drowning every time we went to the pool. In fact, I didn’t want to fear him near ANY body of water. I needed him to learn the skills to save himself.

We started swim lessons at AquaKids! Nathan has grown leaps and bounds there. When we go places, I no longer worry about him. He is four and can jump into any depth of water and easily swim to the edge and climb out. He knows how to back float and dive deep to grab stuff on the bottom of the pool.

Water safety is too important to be passive about. The earlier you can introduce it the better.
