My oldest is hitting double digits and I am a tad emotional about this. I actually have a love/hate with the whole idea that she could be that old. I love that God blessed me with her 10 years ago thru our third and final attempt via IVF. I love that she’s being her own person…she knows her likes/dislikes, she’s smart, and she’s far more independent then I expected at 10. In so many ways, she’s such a little “me!” She’s a hard worker and when motivated she can move mountains.
When we started planning her birthday party, she knew three things she wanted…and wasn’t gonna budge on them.
- Mustache theme
- Sleepover
- No little sisters allowed
Those all seemed doable…but I wasn’t sure about the mustache theme or how we were going to pull that one off! That’s when I searched my favorite, go-to party website, Oriental Trading.
Oriental Trading was stacked full of options! I ordered:

and a few other things and we were good to go!
The girls enjoyed Chickfila Chicken Nugget Tray (we ordered the medium tray and 9 girls put away all 125 of them!) Some fruit, chips/dips, and make your own Italian Creme Soda. Then the girls moved upstairs to the media room to watch Big Hero 6 on the big screen…and you wouldn’t believe it…they wanted popcorn! So 4 bags of popcorn and an hour later, they were back downstairs ready for the sweet treats!
My friend Megan of Black Flour, made these adorably fan’tash’tic cake pops which the girls loved. Of course, here in TX I had to add some BlueBell ice cream as an option as well!
They then moved over to the table to do some crafting. I ordered some Basketball Charms and Softball Charms for the girls to make necklaces or bracelets. They had fun creating their own bling to wear.
Last, I had them do a project that I thought would be a fun keepsake for Chloe. Since she’s turning 10, I had them write three things on a note card:
1.) How they know Chloe
2.) A thought about Chloe
3.) Something important in 2015
I thought this would be a fun “time capsule” type keepsake that Chloe could read when she turns 20. One girl wrote “Justin Bieber is an idiot” on her card as the important thing about 2015! LOL
After they where done, they went upstairs to hang out. It was so much fun listening to their conversations. The things they talk about are important to them, and funny to me.
I also learned the following morning that 9 girls can take down roughly 50 small pancakes, two packs of bacon, a jug of OJ, and half a gallon of milk! WOW!
