March Madness and Things That we are Loving Updates

February was a crazy month in our family. It came with some highs and lows. I was able to take a girls trip to Vegas with my best friend to see George Strait and it was a weekend to remember. We enjoyed Hell’s Kitchen, the sensory overload of the strip, and singing our hearts out with George. It was the first time we have had a chance to get away like that and it was such a blessing. 8 kids, between the two of us, and two hard working hubbys have made it tough for us to travel like that…but we did it… and plan to do it again!

Upon returning, I learned that my Grandma had major surgery to remove cancer. This was such a shock. She is a fighter and is once again showing cancer who is boss of her body! She is home recovering now and will start chemo in a few weeks. This was a wake up call and reminder that we are not promised anything in this life. (This seems to be a theme through out my life…) My Grandma means the world to me and I can’t imagine life without her. Just typing this paragraph has my throat in knots. It has felt paralyzing in so many ways to consider all that has transpired medically with her this past month. We should know in a few weeks if her cancer is the type that is hereditary and if I should look at getting tested as well. I’m learning a lot about Ovarian Cancer… like did you know that you can get it…even if you don’t have your ovaries? I had no idea. Prayers appreciated for her as she starts Chemo and pushes thru that phase. I NEED her around for another 20-30 years (she’s 80…so maybe that’s pushing it…but I would love to have at least 10-15!).  I hate cancer! (as a side note, my Dad is doing his radiation and all is going well and looking good there!)

March is here, finally and things are picking up! Our little man is playing soccer, our youngest is playing softball now, the next is trying out for cheerleader tomorrow and our oldest is doing track and turns 14 tomorrow! It’s crazy busy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way!

Here are a few things that we are using and loving right now:

I have found Quest Pizza (sold at Target) and am really enjoying that! It’s a high protein pizza that I don’t have to feel guilty about eating. I like that I have something new to add to my menu that is quick and easy…and sooo yummy! Seriously, if you count your Macros and like high protein meals, it’s a great one to add!

There is an app I recently found out about called “Scheduled” and it allows me to schedule text messages. This is perfect for me when I am laying in bed at night and want to text someone…but it’s too late. I can schedule it and it will pop up the next morning for me to send… and I don’t have to forget what I wanted to say or who I wanted to text. It’s free!

We are really loving Carmex right now. It is sooo cold and windy outside and we keep it warm inside, so lips are getting chapped. I feel like we are constantly going thru tubes of it, but it’s worth it because our lips are in need.

And last… we are really loving playing the card game “Sevens” as a family. This is hard to explain, but you can google how to play it. It’s easy and my kids love playing!
