In my 18 years of marriage, I have only owned two new cars. One, hubby and I purchased on our own a few years into marriage, and the second one, I won, (long story there, but thanks American Idol!) Other then those two vehicles, we have always purchased used cars. We are not impulsive buyers and have always approached buying with a list in hand. Here is our personal list:
1.) Is it big enough to fit our family, plus one extra?
2.) Does it have enough trunk/storage space for our current life situation… stroller, sports bags, etc.
3.) Does it allow for easy access to our kids in car seats? (We only have one now!)
4.) Is the mileage within reason for the year it was made?
5.) Has it been in a wreck?
6.) What warranties does it come with, if any?
7.) Are there any items that you MUST have?
Once we have this list and can narrow down the make/model of what we are looking for, we normally can find what we want fairly quickly. With used cars, I always think you need to test drive them to get a feel if they are what you really want. We have gone to a dealership thinking we wanted one thing, and left having bought something completely different after test driving, as it didn’t ride as smooth as we thought it would. I have found that most dealerships are great to help you if you can give them a list of what you want! I know that Mr. Ed can help you with your used car needs, as well as your financing needs.
