Solving the Bible Story Family Growth problem

For some time I have felt a calling (so to speak) to make sure my kids are being intentionally fed spiritually. The idealist in my would have us carve out an hours every night where Steve (being the man of the house) would engage with a fun, applicable lesson from the Bible. This has not happened. Instead of stewing about how to make him do this with a joyful heart and releasing myself from taking it on to do myself…I came up with a great plan!

This plan was prayed over for many months, and I feel that the Lord has lead me to something that will grow us individually and as a family…and best of all, it grows each of my kids in many different ways.

Here is our plan! Sunday’s we will recap the sermon from church. We will talk about what we liked most and how we plan to live it out. We will dive in deeper if there is anything we didn’t understand or need clarification on. Then the week will go as follows:

Monday : Mom leads family in devotional

Tuesday: Chloe leads

Wednesday: Maci leads

Thursday: Emma Leads

Friday: Dad leads

Saturday we will attend our weekly worship service and reflect back over the week. We will talk about what we well and what we wish was better.

This schedule will only work if Steve and I carve out time to make it happen. We know this. Creating margin is something that we have been very intentional about this past year. Adding a little one to our family created the need to slow down even more. I recently read a story about a woman who went grocery shopping and on the way home gave some groceries to a friend who didn’t have time to run to the store, and more to a neighbor who she wanted to help because her husband was traveling, and more to an older lady, just to help her out. She got home and her family was starving and she had NOTHING to give. As much as I love giving of my time and energy to others, my family has to come first. I have to make them a priority!

Hubby and I are very excited to watch the girls grow spiritually. We love that they will have to be in the Word even when it’s not “their day” to lead the family. We also love that they will be taking ownership to put application to what they have read.

I hope our new game plan will encourage you to grow with your family, spiritually!
