If you plan on taking vacations each year with your growing family, then you have probably had the discussion over if you should drive or fly. Obviously, if you are staying state side, driving is going to be a much cheaper option.
We have always driven if it’s 10 hours or less and flown if it’s more. Now that we are a family of 6, we will have to talk thru this a little more. I am not one who enjoys being in the car too long. My kids do great, but I go stir crazy. The thought of driving across country to get to the beach terrifies me, but I know in the long run there is WAY more adventure to be had and it would likely be WAY cheaper. Yes, I would have to pay for gas, but we could eat on the road and even pack our meals and snacks to save on money. With two people driving, we could get pretty far without having to stop to sleep.
Here are a few things that I recommend doing before going on vacation if you plan to drive. Get your vehicle serviced. Have all fluids checked and refilled. Get your tires rotated and pressure checked. Get an oil change. Having all of these maintenance things checked and refilled could save you a lot of money down the road. (Pun intended!)
Also before heading out, check the weather of the states that you plan to travel through. If you will encounter snow or ice, plan for that. Take a deicer, window scraper, and some kitty litter incase you get stuck on the side of the road. Being prepared will make your trip feel much more comfortable and secure.
