I often wonder if the things I try to teach my kids is really sinking into their long term memories. It seems that the short term doesn’t work that great as they become repeat offenders at times, driving me batty!

I have made great efforts lately to try to explain things and help them to articulate their words better, in a calm manner. I have three completely different natured girls. My oldest is very dependable, bossy and tries to use logic to get her way. My middle child is very loving, peace-making, and emotional. My youngest thinks she is in change of everyone and everything and has no reservations about making her wishes known and implemented.

As you can guess, this causes daily stress in our home. My sad attempts to remind the girls that we are “Team Solstad” are met with sarcastic looks and the all too familiar eye rolling.

I recall when my sister and I fought about everything… cloths, music, friends, you name it… we fought over it! There were times I swore I hated her and yet today, we are not only supportive sisters, but great friends as well! I NEED her in my life and couldn’t imagine life without her!

Tonight after putting my girls to bed, I heard talking. This is not abnormal and I often have to make a few trips into their rooms to remind them it’s a school night. Tonight was different. They weren’t playing, fighting, or singing songs… they were having a meeting. An important meeting, I was informed. It was a “Sister Meeting!” This meeting was called into order by my middle child who had been bitten by my youngest (don’t ask why, I wasn’t home when the offence happened and Dad along with Aunt TV or Aunt iPad were in charge…). My middle gal can’t sleep if there isn’t peace in her heart…. here is the agenda for the meeting:

This was a sweet reminder that there IS hope as their mom! They ARE hearing the things that I am saying. The DO love each other and they DO care! I love the “I” statements and the apology in this! I pray for them every day… I pray that they will be sweet, articulate, grace filled girls. I think I can see my prayers being answered. So precious.
