There are several iconic places in Dallas that most visitors like to tour when they come into town. We have lived here for 5 years now and have no explored some of these places ourself. We decided this summer that we would cross a few of these places off of our list and I am so glad that we did! We were treated to a ride up to explore in exchange for this post with our honest opinions.
Reunion Tower was built over the course of several years, starting in 1974. In 1978, it opened to the public for the first time. Reunion Tower is 560 feet tall and it only takes a short 68 sec ride in the elevator to get to the top. After several years, Reunion Tower needed renovations. The GeO Deck reopened in 2013 and is beautiful! It’s very modern and interactive. You can also dine in Wolf Gang Pucks Five Sixty restaurant which rotates around the top of the Tower. (You need to make reservations for this!)
We scheduled a visit to Reunion Tower for 8PM on a Friday night. We valet parked and went inside and got right in line to go up. Before going up, we had our picture taken against a green screen. (Once at the top, we were able to view our photos and make our selections!) We rode the elevator up…and it was VERY quick. The girls could look out as we went up and they thought this was so much fun.
Once at the top, we enjoyed learning more about Dallas from the big screens that are available indoors. The kids were able to zoom in and see many things via live cameras. They were also able to see light shows on the massive screens and see what special events the lights are designed for. It was fun seeing the OU/Texas lights! The kids could have played on this for HOURS! (They are basically massive touch screen computers!)
We went outside and walked around. It was beautiful and 8PM was a great time as we were able to enjoy seeing Dallas from up high in the daylight! We could see really far. We used the (free) telescopes to look even further away. The girls loved looking out. The weather was perfect and it was not crowded.
We went back inside for a bit and the girls enjoyed making keepsakes, smashed pennys. We then went back outside to enjoy overlooking the citys night life. It was so beautiful. You could see so many buildings all lit up and it was a very clear night so the sky was dark and perfect.
Once we were ready to go back down, we got in line to get on the elevator. We enjoyed playing in the giftshop under the Tower and the kids found several things that they loved. They do sell a few snacks and drink options.
