The Sandals Foundation seeks to enrich the lives of those in the Caribbean islands! They provide many different services to the under resourced in the community!
While at Beaches, Negril I was blessed to be able to go on a Sandals Foundation Reading Road Trip and read to the sweetest little Jamican girl named, Alicia.
She was just precious! She told me that she loves Barbie and dancing! That melted my heart right out of my chest! My girls also love Barbie and dancing! Her sweet little spirit was endearing and so thankful for the time we got to spend together.
She shared about her family and what she was learning in school. We read a book together and played a hand slapping game! My heart strings were pulled for multiple reasons. I love that Alicia has the opportunity to learn and grow in a school. I am sad that she doesn’t have the same technology opportunities as my kids do. The simple things were beyond precious to her. A ball to kick, a doll to hold.
I wish my girls could have been with me for this. I hope to do this with them next time. I want them to be able to love on those who have less, to give of their time, to enrich the lives of those around them!
Until we are able to return, I will plan to give financially to help! Currently The Sandals Foundation has a Go-Fund-Me account set up to help with hurricane relief efforts. You can donate here!
Before we left the school, the kids lined up and sang us a song. The words were: Freedom, oh Freedom over me. Before I’ll be a slave, I’ll be buried in my grave to be raised to my Lord and be free. It broke my heart to hear these sweet little kiddos singing this. They do not have all of the same freedoms that we do and the fact that they even worry about being slaves is heart wrenching.
