Giving gifts does not have to cost an arm and a leg. Infact, I would venture to say that some of my favorite gifts didn’t cost a dime. The gift of time is really special. I love personal, practical gifts and I also love giving things made by me! This year I am making a few fun gifts! You can easily make them as well. I have a tutorial on how to make homemade hot chocolate in a jar (and even added a chocolate covered caramel spoon to stir with!) This makes easy gifts and your kids can help you put them together. You can pick up the ingredients at Walmart for this!
To make the adorable snowman hot choclate in a jar you will need the following things:
*Hot chocolate Powder Mix
Kraft Jet Puffed Marshmallows (I used both small and large)
Bakers Chocolate (for the chocolate covered candy cane stir stick)
1 candy corn
Simply, draw on the snowmans face with the Bakers chocolate and use a small piece of the candy corn for his nose. Add Hot chocolate mix around the snowman, gently. Top with mini marshmallows to fill.

I added a chocolate covered candy cane as a stir stick on this one. The Bakers Chocolate comes in a microwavable container and you simply heat, dip and let dry.
For a variation of this, I also made caramel covered spoons as well. These would make a yummy salted caramel hot chocolate. Just buy the Kraft Caramels for this!
Gifts do not have to cost an arm and a leg. In fact, I find that gifts like this are very personal and gift is the time spent making the thoughtful handmade item.
You can pick up everything you need to make this fun gift in a jar from Walmart. I found the Kraft marshmallows, Bakers Chocolate, and Kraft Caramels all on the same isle. On the baking isle, let you imagination run wild. The jars are found at Walmart as well and are very in expensive. (This would make a great teacher gift!)
*Recipe for homemade Hot Chocolate mix:
Mix 1 container of Chocolate Powered Milk Mix, 1 container of dry coffee creamer, 1 small box of non-fat dry milk, 1 package of powdered sugar (optional). (You will need a LARGE bowl!)
Simply add a gift tag which reads:
Some People are worth melting for and I think you are one of them! Merry Christmas! (Just add hot water and enjoy!)
