We had such a fun weekend! Even though my littlest is in a walking boot and couldn’t run with us, we loaded her up in a jogging stroller and enjoyed a beautiful morning at the Plano Balloon Fest. We got there just in time, and got to watch a few balloons inflate before taking off on our run.
I was sad that they didn’t launch at 7, but I knew the weather has to be perfect for them to launch. Midway thru our 5K, we looked up and saw a sky full of hot air balloons. It was very magical. I loved seeing them all floating so peacefully in the sky.
The race was well organized and there were several water stations. I really liked that the this 5K was not a ton of twists and turns and no off road trails. It was very clean and on pavement the whole time. We plan to do this one again next year! Mark it on your calendar and don’t miss it!
Oh and the tshirts were that awesome soft running breathable material, and this race offered D rings and we got FREE breakfast afterwards! It was really a great run! As an added bonus, we stayed for the festival. So much to see and do!
Friday morning I was invited to go for a ride in a Hot Air Balloon and I learned tons about them! I had no idea that they can’t be steered…they only go up or down. I also didn’t know that you have to have what they call a “chase team” to find you and pick up everything. It was so educational. I snapped a few photos for you to see the inflation process and even shot this short instagram video as well.
So they blow it up with a high powered fan…cold air. Then at the last little bit they start to blow hot air into it to make it stand up! It’s really a cool process to watch!
I also found out that there are only around 250 pilots in the DFW area and 5000 nation wide.
