My family was recently invited to partner with Discover San Angelo for an expense paid weekend to explore and play. All opinions shared are my own and are honest!
As a larger (then most) family, I love finding ways to travel on a budget! Before heading to San Angelo, I did a little research to see what was available and knew that The Bosque on the Concho River was an area that we wanted to explore. We do not have an area like this in Dallas and I knew the kids would love it. What we did not know until we got there was that there would be so much to do in this area. You can park (for FREE!) right on the river!
There are TONS of spots to do photo ops, clean restrooms, and picnic areas.
You can play giant chess, for free.
During operating hours, you can rent paddle boats, as well as play putt-putt. They also offer concessions. This area is so family friendly.
Not far from The Bosque, is Kids Kingdom! This is a HUGE playground! You will NOT be able to get your kids off of this playground quickly… but no worries… you won’t want to! This park is right by the river. It’s a beautiful area and you will enjoy the scenery. Taking a walk as a family is a must while you are there as well! The sidewalk is wide and the path is well marked for easy biking or even jogging.
While you are in this area… don’t miss out on The Latest Scoop IceCream shop. It’s right by The Bosque. It has been listed as one of the top 10 ice cream shops in the state of Texas! I can definitely see why! Hubby ordered a maple bacon waffle cone and it was so yummy! It’s the small things like this that make their shop unique!
The downtown area is awesome in San Angelo! There are tons of murals on the walls! I am more then sure they all have stories that are rich and full of history! We stopped and took photos with a few of them! My girls LOVED this butterfly one! So cool!
There are also sheep ALL over the city! There are 48 of them! We took a picture with a few of them! It’s so fun to see how different business painted them.
Another awesome place to check out before leaving town is San Angelo State Park! It is a great place to go for a day trip or even to camp out if you have an RV, tent or want to rent a cabin.
There is a playground, which bathrooms not far from the south entrance. If you enjoy hiking and exploring trailings, you will want to plan to spend some time doing just that! Bring your fishing poles as well because you can also enjoy some time on the lake. AL
Overall, we felt that San Angelo was a family friendly community to visit. It was easy to navigate through and we felt very welcomed and safe while we explored.
